DENVER — The Denver Nuggets have made the NBA Finals for the first time in 25 years, and it all started with a pair of big-name players.
But they are going to have to contend with a lot more talent this year than they did this past season, and they may be a bit too reliant on their young talent.
The Denver Post’s Jeff Goodman said Thursday that while the Nuggets are a very young team, they are a team with a ton of young talent, so it won’t be easy to keep the team in the playoff picture.
Goodman also reported that the Nuggets will be using their salary cap space this summer to sign a star center and guard.
“That is an extremely interesting move.
That is something we have been looking at,” Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri said.
“We have been in conversations with a couple of teams.
We haven’t made a decision.
We’re going to wait and see.
But we’ve been talking to a few teams and we’re going forward with it.”
While the Nuggets have had success with the draft and the draft in the past, this is the first year they will have to use the draft to build their team.
That could be problematic, but Ujiris told Goodman that he believes in the system and the young talent on the team.
“We’re going out there and trying to build a team, but we’ve also got a very strong young core of players,” Ujiresi said.
“I’m not going to tell you, I’m not looking to be the next David Stern, but I think we’re building a great foundation to have a long-term future.
We know what we have to do to win.
We have a very, very good group of players, a very good system.
We’ve got to keep it going.
That’s the most important thing, keeping it going.”
The Nuggets have three first-round picks this year, and will use those picks on a number of players.
They will take forward Jamal Murray, guard Danilo Gallinari and center Andre Miller.
Ujiris also said that the team has already secured a first-rounder from the Charlotte Bobcats in return for the draft pick.
Denver will use that pick on guard Jusuf Nurkic, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
“Jusuf is one of the best guards in the league,” UJiris said.
“[Nurkic] is a very capable player.
He’s been an All-Star.
He can play the 3-point shot, he can play both guard positions.
He has a lot of upside, and we’ve got a really good group in place.”
The NBA has never won a championship without a star player, but the Nuggets can be a big reason why.
Nurkics has made an impact with his shot, averaging 20.7 points, 9.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
He also has become one of their best players.
The Nuggets are also building a roster with some young talent at key positions.
Miller has been playing in a different system with more ball-handling responsibilities, but he is still a good rebounder and passer.
The Nuggets also have a talented point guard in Ty Lawson, who could be one of two big-time stars in the upcoming season.
The team also has some veterans who have played in the playoffs before, and that includes guard Emmanuel Mudiay.
He is expected to be one the team’s best players, and he is in line to get the start at center.
The Denver Nuggets are going through some change after being the first team in NBA history to win the NBA championship.
The team also lost its top scorer, starting center Danilo Galas, and a big man in Gary Harris, who also played for the Denver Nuggets.
Denver is still just three games into the season, but it is looking like a team that has the potential to be competitive in the East.
It will be interesting to see how the team reacts to the new era, as the team will need to make adjustments and adapt to a new coaching staff.
