Tan boots are a way to make sure your feet are protected, even if your skin is sensitive.
But how is it done?
Tan shoes have been around for decades.
They’re a popular accessory for women, but their popularity has soared as women have become more active and have more disposable income.
Here’s what you need to know about tan boots.
Tan shoes are made with a synthetic rubber that’s designed to be waterproof, breathable, and easy to clean.
They can be used for hiking, cycling, running, and other outdoor activities.
You can find them in a wide range of colors, styles, and materials.
But tan shoes have gotten a lot of attention in recent years because of the many reports of people getting sunburned and even getting sick from wearing them.
“Tan boots are not the answer to everything that happens in the outdoors,” says Jill A. O’Connor, MD, of the Center for Tan Research at the University of California, San Diego.
“It’s not like you are going to wear your feet in sandpaper or get your hands cut off.”
Here are five tips for using tan boots safely: Wear sandpaper to protect your feet.
“We know that sandpaper can be a good barrier to sweat and other irritants,” says Dr. O’tConnor.
“If sandpaper is used, wear it with caution.”
Sandpaper can also help keep your feet dry by soaking them in water for 15 minutes to 10 minutes to prevent the glue from drying out.
Also, wear sandpaper on the soles of your feet to keep the glue in place.
Be careful not to cut your feet too short.
“The longer your feet have been walking in the sun, the less likely they are to get cut,” says A. J. Brown, MD.
If you do want to wear sandpapers, “just be sure to keep your toes short, as they don’t need to be as long as a human foot,” says Brown.
Avoid sunburns and get tan to protect the skin.
If it’s the summer, “it’s a good idea to get a tan to get the sun off,” says O’Connor.
You might be able to protect yourself by wearing a protective layer under your tan.
But keep in mind that the layers don’t offer much protection when it comes to sunburn.
“You don’t want to expose the skin to the sun at all,” says J.M. Dillard, MD of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Instead, wear a tan jacket or shorts.
You’ll also want to avoid the sun’s direct rays, which can cause sunburn and sun damage.
“When wearing a tan, don’t use your tan shoes to cover your feet,” says Lorna M. Brown of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Skin Diseases and Environmental Sciences.
“Keep your feet covered with a sweat mask, or use a mask with a rubber band on the top, like this,” Brown advises.
Don’t use a tan mask if you are pregnant.
You’re also not allowed to wear a t-shirt or shorts when you’re pregnant, even in the summer.
And if you have a child, you can’t wear a bathing suit or swimsuit while in the water.
Also avoid wearing tan shoes if you’re a pregnant woman.
“This is a good time to wear boots when pregnant,” says Dillard.
“Pregnant women should avoid sun exposure because the latex on tan boots can become too thin.
If your feet get a lot more sunburn, your skin may dry out, making it harder for the latex to absorb the sun,” says M.K. Chaudhry, MD at the Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
But if you want to dress up and walk in a tan outfit, “you can get away with wearing a bathing cap or tan sandals,” Brown says.
